I led my engineering senior design team in the design, subsystem testing, and final integration and construction of a semi-automated medical device assembly machine. I acted as both the team leader and the electrical engineer. This means that I took on many roles and tasks within the team from both an engineering and management perspective. First and foremost in my role as the head electrical engineer, I designed the electronic and control systems for this project. In my role as the team leader, I performed tasks such as project management, report writing, budgeting, and economic analysis of the medical external fixation device market. Throughout this project, I was able to put into practice the engineering design methods that I had learned both in classes and during my co-ops. This chiefly meant translating each manual assembly step into a step of an algorithm that the machine could perform and then designing, testing, and integrating each subsystem into the final electrical design. Lastly, I also had to work with my other team members in order to make sure that all of our different contributions meshed into one cohesive system. The successful completion of this project demonstrates that I have the knowledge to take a product through the full development cycle and delivery to market.
